Charles Robert Washburn passed away on May 15, 2013. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd St., Abilene, TX. Burial will follow at 3 pm in Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
Charles was born August 17, 1932. He was a veteran of the Korean War; was a Mason; and a retired oil field worker. He had worked for GO International and Gearheart, and started his own company, Invader Wireline.
Charles is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Washburn of Abilene; three daughters, Lynn Herring and her husband Bill, Diane Chorn and her husband Ronnie, and Johnnie Lay; grandchildren, Cory B. Herring, Casey Herring, Jeff, John and Chris Chorn, and Laura and Dustin Lay; and a great-grandson, Bryan Hagen Herring; two sisters, Barbara Newsom and Dean Thomas, both of Merkel.
