The 5th of 16 children, Daniel aka ”Popo Willow” “Danny Duck” “Daniel Boone” Cisneros was born in Abilene Texas to Martin Cisneros Sr & Raquel Rodriguez Cisneros on October 26, 1956. He attended Abilene High School. He received his AA in horticulture from University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Young Danny began a career in landscaping and as soon as he could reach a doorknob he found a career with Overhead Door in Abilene and then transferred to San Angelo where he continued with Overhead Door, retiring in August after 40 years of service to the West Texas area. He was highly respected in this field and made many friends along his career path. Daniel’s original aspirations included rodeo clown and North Pole elf. He applied for local carnivals but since he wasn’t tall enough to even ride most rides, he was unsuccessful in this endeavor. He was a phenomenal storyteller. The beginning of one story often lead to a trail of 10-12 intertwining stories and you never knew really what the hell he was talking about, but one thing was for sure, it was funny. And oh, what a dancer he was. Forget Solid Gold or Soul Train, Saturday Night Fever had nothing on the famous “Uncle Danny Eagle Dance.” He was like a tiny party favor for everyone to share once the music started. You couldn’t help but watch in amazement and laugh, pure entertainment for all to enjoy.
Daniel loved the outdoors: riding the river with family, chasing armadillos (he even let one out to chase his daughter when she was about 5), raising goats with his children (great for backyard pits and barbeques) and saving baby raccoons (after accidentally unaliving their mothers.) He climbed trees for good camping and BBQ bark, ever hear the story of him falling out of one about 50 feet in the air and crushing his family jewels? It’s a tearjerker for sure!! He wore a back brace for a while, it was quite the attire for a tiny person. He found a horny toad once, brought it back as a gift to his daughter, but it ran away. You’d often find him in the yard, calling out or asking if anyone had seen it. Likely he’s been reunited with his lost horny toad.
Daniel was preceded in death by both parents, Martin Cisneros Sr and Raquel Rodriguez Cisneros, siblings Martin Cisneros, Samuel Cisneros, Benjamin Cisneros, Ruben Cisneros, Robert Cisneros, Olga Cisneros Gutierrez; great grandson Lorenzo Vicente Cortez, nephews Alejandro Cisneros, Michael Girtz and Roberto Cisneros and great niece Alyssa Resendez.
