A Celebration of her life will be on April 15, 2023, 1pm at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Hwy 277, followed by burial at Elmwood Memorial Gardens, Abilene, TX.
Doris was born Nov 29, 1929, in Crosbyton, TX to LB and Varna Gill. She graduated as Valedictorian from Ropesville High School. After graduation, Doris met the first love of her life, Bill Condra, in Ropesville, TX, while working for his brother who lived down the road from her parents. Bill and Doris were married on Dec 16, 1946. Doris and Bill lived in Lovington, Roswell and Portales, NM, before moving to Abilene. They had too many adventures to mention before and after having their three children, Larry, Brenda and Mark Condra. Bill lost his fight with Muscular Dystrophy on Jan 30, 2000 on Super Bowl Sunday, but Bill went to the biggest Super Bowl ever on that day!
A few years later on March 19, 2004, Doris married Florin E Kinder and they were blessed with 19 beautiful years together. In the first 4 years of marriage, Doris and Florin enjoyed many trips to Branson, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Colorado, to mention a few, before Doris was diagnosed with Dementia.
After moving to Abilene in 1963, Doris was given the Valedictorian Scholarship and received her Bachelors and Masters in Education from Abilene Christian College. She taught 4th and 5th grades at Dyess Elementary in Abilene for 14 years before having to take an early retirement due to disability. She also taught Bible classes and Bible Bowl to students at Woodlawn and Southern Hills churches of Christ.
Fraternal affiliations included Delta Kappa Gama, Kappa Delta Pi and Texas State Teachers Association. While living in Lovington, NM she worked with the Chamber of Commerce welcoming newcomers to town and was President of the Garden Club.
Doris dearly loved her family and wide network of friends. She was an avid gardener, cook and seamstress. Christmas was always celebrated in a big way, even when money was very tight. The card ministry she started blessed hundreds of people through the years. If you received a card from her you were blessed.
Doris was preceded in death by LB and Varna Gill-parents, Dwayne- brother, Frances-sister, Bill-husband and Larry-son.
