

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene with Rev. Albert Ezeanya & Rev. Reggie Odima officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday evening from 4-7 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM. The family ask guest follow funeral home protocol in regards to social distancing, wearing mask while in the building and respecting occupancy
regulations.
Edna San Juanita Martinez was born on December 8, 1967 in Abilene to her cherished parents Rique and Otila (Gonzalez) Martinez. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1986 and moved to the DFW area to attend Tarrant County College where she majored in nursing. Following a career in nursing she pursued a career in the financial industry working for several companies to include Allstate, and D.F.W. airport in currency exchange. She married the love of her life, Ruben Melendrez on September 26, 1994 together they enjoyed many wonderful years of marriage. The seeds of faith were planted in Edna growing up in a loving Christian home and they bloomed as she became an adult. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Coppell where she was involved in; teaching religious education, and was a Lector. Early in life Edna battled many health challenges, but with faith, and family she was able to remain strong through them all. Edna had a genuine and heartfelt concern for others; always placing the needs of others before her own. Her electrifying and upbeat personality made her the life of any gathering. She was a part of a very large extended family of special aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws that she made many special memories with. Last but certainly not least she was the Dallas Cowboys #1 fan and she also loved the Mavericks.
She is survived by her beloved husband Ruben Melendrez; her parents, Rique and Otila Martinez; step-son, Kyle Melendrez and his wife Karen and their children, Mason and Dalton; her brother, Ricky J. Martinez and his wife Molly and their children Alexa and Lane; her sister, Christa Martinez; mother-in-law, Della Melendrez; sister-in-law, Brenda Hutchinson (Tom); brothers-in-law, Sammy(Carrie), Gilbert (Heather), Kenneth (Nadine), and Mike Melendrez; a special second mother, her “Tia Lupe” De La Torre; a host of Martinez and Gonzalez, aunts, uncles, cousins; numerous Melendrez nieces and nephews; and many many friends who were blessed to share in the love and joy Edna brought to those around her.
