

The family will have a private memorial service. Arrangements were handled by Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd St., Abilene, TX.
Elmer was born on July 10, 1924 in Colton, South Dakota to John Iver and Mamie Shader Gunderson. He attended school and then served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII as a special vehicle operator and sharp shooter in the Naples Foggia Air Offensive in Europe Normandy Southern France. He also served in Air Combat in the Balkans. After serving his country, Elmer worked as a conductor for the Southern Pacific Railroad for over 30 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Mary Gulbranson.
Survivors include his wife, Esperanza Gunderson of Abilene; one son, Alfredo Gunderson of Abilene; three daughters, Judy Adamson of El Centro, CA, Janet Burse of Wellton, AZ, and Jill Pineda of El Centro, CA; one brother, Howard Gunderson of Watertown, S.D.; one sister, Darlene Gulseth of Rapid City, S.D.; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
