

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020 at 11 AM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas.
Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2020 from 8 AM to 5PM in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Hwy. 277 S., Abilene, TX 79606.
Gladys was born on May 15, 1912 in a tent in the oilfields of Tree City, Louisiana to Willie Thomas and Sarah Florence (Sirman) Cox. Gladys moved around with her family in the oilfields of Louisiana and Texas until the age of 12. After her parents divorce, she roomed with Mr. & Mrs. Taylor in Corsicana, Texas in order to attend school. She graduated from Corsicana High School in 1931. After high school she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to be with her mother. She attended business school in Shreveport and worked until her marriage to Albert Duke Henson on December 27, 1935.
Duke and Gladys lived in College Station, Texas where they built their first home and had three children, Martha Gail, Charles Churchill and William Thomas (Bill). They had so many friends and memories from their time in College Station. After 19 years, they moved to Texarkana, Texas where they lived for 5 years.Then, in 1956 they moved to Abilene, Texas and in 1963 they moved to Oklahoma City, OK. Duke retired from Western Union while they lived in Oklahoma City.
Gladys, Mother, Grandma, Mimi spent her life giving to and helping others. She was always there with a helping hand for her friends and her family. She loved to be with her friends, bake cakes and play bridge. Her church family was always very special to her. She prepared the most fantastic meals and everyone loved to sit at her table. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, stepparents Pauline Cox and Nat Worman, brother Thomas Leo Cox and sister-in-law Lorraine Cox, son-in-law Mike Waldmann and daughter-in-law Betty Walther.
Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Martha Gail Waldmann : two sons, Charles Churchhill Henson and wife Sompit, and William Thomas Henson. 6 grandchildren, Michael Waldmann (Susan), Matthew Waldmann (Sheree), Timothy Waldmann, Phillip Waldmann (Amber), Bernard Waldmann (Jennifer), Sarah Waldmann Garcia (Brian) 9 great-grandchildren, Kady Waldmann, Jacob Garcia, Kaitlin Waldmann, Trevor Waldmann, Ryan Waldmann, Sara Waldmann, Karli Waldmann, Ella Garcia, Robert Waldmann and a host of extended family and friends.
