Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. in Abilene with Pastor David Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Cemetery in Baird, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7:00 PM
Herschell was born on August 9, 1933 on a farm south of Duke, Oklahoma in Jackson County. He was the only child born to Eddie Emerson Riddle and Florence Elizabeth (Eccles) Riddle. He married the love of his life; Joyce Gelene Cox on Dec. 26, 1951 this union lasted until her passing in 2020. They started their family in Oklahoma, later they moved to Texas and settled in Abilene. Herschell was a hard worker and was employed with several companies: Thornton’s Dept. Store, Swift and Gooch Meat Packing, Companies. He then went on to have a career as a truck driver with Northwest and Circle D. Herschell and Gelene loved being present for the sports and school events for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were loyal fans and no distance could keep them away from cheering family on in whatever endeavor they pursued.
He was preceded in death by his parents; devoted wife, Gelene Riddle; beloved daughter-in-law, Karen Riddle; grandson, D.J. Riddle; special cousin, Delbert Riddle.
He leaves behind his children, Janette Riddle, Ronald Riddle, and Donald Riddle; grandchildren, John and Connie McKenna, Candace Riddle and Blake Dunnahoo, Amber and Cody Cottingham; great-grandchildren, K’Lynn , Kason, John Liam, Kynzi, Brayden, Adalyn, and Kolbyn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
