Iona Jewell Martin

Jewell Hatcher Martin, 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Graveside services will be 3:00pm, Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Elmwood Memorial Park with Jeff Hatcher officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.

Jewell was born to Oscar and Mary Hatcher, August 27th, 1920. She graduated from Throckmorton High School and from McMurry University with a teaching degree. She married Herbert Wayne Martin on November 24, 1944. She was a selfless, giving person who enjoyed friends and family, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Abilene.

Jewell was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herbert Wayne Martin; her grandson, Mikko Warren; her brothers Ted Hatcher, Allen Hatcher, and Carroll Hatcher; and her sisters Elva Morrison and Florence Kessler.

Jewell is survived by her children Donna Warren and husband Larry; Diana Smith and husband Steve; five grandchildren Ashley Reddin Moorhead, James Warren, Alex Warren and wife Vera, Ben Warren, and Travis Warren, and five great-grandchildren. Jewell is also survived by her brother, Bob Hatcher and wife Louise, and many nieces and nephews.
