

Jack D. Spillers, age 83, of Abilene, TX, passed away Sunday night, September 1, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at Elmwood West United Methodist Church, 1302 South Pioneer Dr., with Jeff Hatcher and Ryan Strebeck officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Alton Davis, Willis Masters, Roger Connell, Curtis Borland, Ray Boyd III, Alan Boyd, Abel Valderas, and Doug Spillers. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Davis and Ray Brodersen.
Born December 18, 1929, he was the son of the late William Oscar (Bill) Spillers and Sally Viola (Smith) Spillers, of Sweetwater, TX.
Jack was the original owner and founder of Snowhite Bakery, located at 155 Sayles Blvd. He opened Snowhite Bakery in May of 1957 after relocating to Abilene from Sweetwater. He retired from “getting up at 3:30 am to make the donuts” on July 4, 1985. He spent the remainder of his life playing with the “Love of His Live and Best Friend”, his wife, Annie.
Jack loved his family, friends and God. He was a member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and served on many church committees and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. Jack also loved to play hard. He participated in all kinds of sports and activities, but his favorite things were golfing, fishing and playing on the church softball team. Jack loved to be home and just piddle in his shop or work in the yard.
Preceding him in death were his brother, Bill Spillers, Jr. and a sister, Mary Alice Connell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anna Beth Spillers; two daughters, Brenda Spillers Valderas of Abilene and Barbara Spillers of Duncanville; a sister, Virginia Borland of Midland; grandchildren, Ray Boyd, Alan Boyd, Dana Elsom, Caitlin Herring, and Taylor Willingham; and five great-grandchildren.
