James (Jim) Upchurch, 78, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Abilene. Private family services with military honors were held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 with burial in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. He was born in Doddsville, Mississippi on April 22, 1938. Jim served the military faithfully for 34 years. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marianne; his sons, Johnny and Jimmy; his daughter, Sonja; his ever present daughter-in-law, Lisa; his loving and caring granddaughters, Jaclyn, Amanda, Johlisa, Julia, and Jamie; his grandsons, Johnny Jr., Jacob, Jackson, and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Ty and Taylor Rae; his sister, Margie Foster; and a sister-in-law, Hedy Hermle.
