

Jera Mae Lord Stephan, 80, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 23, 2014, with her loving husband and children by her side. She passed away peacefully in Abilene, Texas after struggling with numerous health issues over the last few years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd., Abilene, TX with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Jera was born on June 1, 1934, in Midland, Texas, to Ira and Jessie Leona Lord. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1952 and married Robert on June 28, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church. Jera was a city girl who became a farmer's wife, proudly assuming those duties. With children in school, she began her career in the real estate industry, initially for Jimmy Partin Realtors, later retiring from Senter Realtors as office manager for over 20 years. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran, serving in several capacities, including choir director and committee chairman for the 100th Anniversary Celebration in 1994. Even while working outside the home, her number one priority was her family, always supportive and involved in all aspects of their lives.
Jera is survived by Robert, her husband of 62 years; a son, Andy Stephan and wife, Bonnie of Tuscola; daughters, Jerrie Brown and husband, Garth of Merkel and Kountze; Netta Hart and husband, Andy of Merkel; seven grandchildren, Jared Martin, Jayci Martin, Robert Brown, Jr., Hollie Brown, Stephani Gardner, Christopher Hart, and Staci Bitner; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Mildred Bell, Polly Owens, Ila Lord; one brother, Ira Lord; and one grandson, Curtis Brown.
