

Joe Everett Felton, 84, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Temple, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1st, in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Joe was born May 16, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from Sunset High School. He served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the Navy ship, the USS Arapaho. He attended the University of Texas, Austin and worked for the Texas Highway Department before moving to Abilene. Mr. Felton founded the Better Business Bureau of Abilene and was its Director until retiring. He was active in civic affairs and was a Kiwanian for many years. He was awarded the coveted Hixon medal for his work at the Kiwanis Club of Abilene. Mr. Felton is a member of First Christian Church of Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice (Jarnigan) Felton; wife, Katherine Felton and sister, Mary Gibbs. He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Butler of Phoenix, Arizona; niece, Rebecca Gibbs of Boston, Massachusetts; nephew, Harry Gibbs of Round Rock, Texas; and first cousin, Commander Bob Felton, USN Ret.
Mr. Felton was loved by his many friends in the Abilene area and by the staff and residents of the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple, Texas.
