

Joe Baty Long, 70, was born on May 9, 1940 in Abilene, Texas. He died on Friday, March 4, 2011 in Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Virginia Mountjoy Long, 3 Daughters, Cindy Brown (Edward) of Fort Worth, Texas, Jackie Stinar (Bruce) of Valparaiso, Florida and Donna Roberts of Grand Prairie, Texas, 2 Step Children John Smith and Sharron Smith of Abilene, 1 Brother Herman Clay Long (Sue) of Parsons, Kansas, 2 Sisters Clayrene May Long Small (James) of Hugo, Oklahoma and Mary Evelyn Long O’Connor of Abilene, Texas, Grandchildren Emily McElroy, Johnna Smith, Lauren and Corey Stinar, Edward, Daniel, Jacob and Anthony Brown, Great Grandchild Brodie Clay Allen, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, et al. He was preceded in death by his parents Clay Long and Corene Carr Long and brother-in-law John J. O’Connor. Joe Baty Long attended Travis Elementary, South Junior High and Abilene High School. He was Baptised at Temple Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. In 1957 he joined the United States Air Force; however his long Military career was spent in the United States Navy. After his Naval career, Joe worked at Abilene Regional Airport for the City of Abilene, Chaparral Airlines and American Eagle Airlines. He also worked at DFW for American Eagle Airlines. He retired in 2002 from Mesaba Airlines in Florence, Kentucky. Joe and Virginia Long retired to Abilene, Texas making it their home. Joe had many hobbies since retiring, which included Model Trains, RC Planes, Guitar, Fish and restoring vintage Motor Scooters. Not only did Joe show affection for his fellow man but he was also an animal lover.
It can be said that Joe read and then reread the Holy Bible.
