John B. Wicker, 90, passed away March 6, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Graveside services will be 10:00a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014 in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
John was born on the family farm near Pulaski, MS, on October 26, 1923. John joined the US Navy in 1942, serving on the USS New Jersey battleship firing the 16 inch in several battles during WWII. After the war he graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in geology. John spent his career working in the oil business for Lane Wells and then Dresser Atlas in locations such as Montana, Wyoming, and West Texas. After retirement, John helped his son Philip, at his business Pack & Mail in Abilene.
Survivors include his sons Clark Wicker of Houston and Philip Wicker of Abilene.
He is preceded in death by his wife Valeta S. Wicker, his parents Lewie and Gladys Wicker and his sister Evelyn Labbate.
