Services will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Faith, Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South with Bob Eklund officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home before the service.
Mary was the youngest of twelve children born on September 27, 1927 to Walter E. and Edna A. Fowler in Rule, Texas. Joan married Keith Hyland Cartwright on August 28, 1948. She enjoyed her family, her sewing and her little dog, Angel.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a baby daughter; her husband; seven sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheri Matos and husband, John of Abilene; her son, Joel Cartwright of Abilene; one grandson, David Hall and wife, Meg; and a great-grandson, Cody of Great Lakes, Illinois.
Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Sears Methodist, Wisteria Place and Hendrick Medical Center, especially the wonderful ladies that work on the hospice seventh floor at Hendrick. Joan was a member of Highland Church of Christ, Abilene. A very special thank you is due Beth Reeves, Congregational Care Minister at Highland Church.
