

Mary Elizabeth Holloway Gregory, 97, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at her residence in Abilene. Graveside services will be held at 2:00p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2016 in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Mary was born on November 8, 1918 in Abilene, TX to Charlie and Ethel Holloway. After two years in Abilene, the family moved to Corpus Christi and then to Waco, TX were Mary graduated from Waco High School and Baylor University. She taught school for two years at Salado, TX. When WWII broke out, Mary worked at several government agencies including the Veterans Administration in Waco. She transferred to Houston with the VA when she met her future husband, Charlie Gregory. There were married the 29th of December 1946. Charlie attended the University of Houston for one year, then the couple moved to Ft. Worth where Charlie received his degree in accounting from TCU. Charlie obtained a job in Abilene as a roughneck with one of the oil companies. Mary's father, not being familiar with oil business, was very pleased and referred to his son-in-law as the oil man from Abilene. The couple lived in and around Abilene for sixty years except for one year in Houston where Charlie was District Landman for Crown Central Petroleum. After returning to Abilene, Charlie worked as an Independent Petroleum Landman for many years. Mary was preceded in death by her husband who died January 9, 2011; her parents; her brother, Truman and wife, Charlie; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins to whom she was very close. Mary is survived by one son, Kyle and his wife, Alice; two grandchildren, Thomas and Charlie and one great-grandson, Brackston. She is also survived by her faithful little pets.
