

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, Texas where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 10 from 5-7:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Highway 277 S. in Abilene.
Raymond was born on July 31, 1931 in Greenville, Texas to the late William Earl Carter (We-Earl) and Maggie Lee (Pendergrass) Carter. He graduated from Celeste High School in 1948. He went to to serve in the United States Army in 1954 and 1955 Signal Corps. Following his time in the military he attended and graduated from East Texas State in 1960. He married Peggy Ruth(Little) Carter on March 18, 1960. He was employed with Purvin & Gertz INC. He consulted engineers for nearly thirty years before retiring in 1996 as Vice-President/ Treasure. Raymond and Peggy lived in Mesquite, Dallas, Sunnyvale, Cedar Creek Lake and finally settled in Abilene. He loved his family, faithfully took care of his wife during illness and enjoyed playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Ruth Carter; his brothers, Herbert, Kenneth, Joe, Howard, Dalton, Billy, Donald, and Albert Carter.
He is survived by his three daughters, Terri Low of Sherman, TX, Sue Norton of Caddo Mills, TX, and Gwen Coonrod, of Abilene, TX; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; his sister, Lois Gambrell of Mesquite, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
