Richard McCormick

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd, Abilene. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013, at the funeral home with burial following at 12:00 p.m. in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

Richard was born September 8, 1956 in Sweetwater, Texas to Lucille Eakins McCormick and Cecil K. McCormick. He graduated from Hawley High School in 1974 and joined the United States Air Force in January 1975. Richard was a seasoned truck driver of 34 years, traveling the highways carrying everything from onions to oilfield equipment - even driving for a country music star. He loved watching NASCAR and did a little drag racing himself. His love of music included playing the fiddle and guitar.

Richard was preceded in death by his Mother; infant son Ricky K. McCormick; three nephews; and a niece.

He is survived by his fiancée, Jeanette Phelps of Abilene; daughter, Shannon Nielsen and husband Joe of Fort Worth; son, Mark Lee McCormick of California; daughters, Megan McCormick and Chancy Welch of Abilene; father, Cecil McCormick and wife Susie of Hawley; sister, Cathy Witte of Abilene; sister, Teresa Sanders and husband Herbert of Anson; sister, Tracey Rose and husband Charlie of Hawley; and brother, Greg McCormick and wife Myra of New Mexico; step-brothers, Tommy Tyson and Todd Tyson; six grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
