

Ruth Maxine Davis, 94, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at a local medical center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Community Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 North 2nd Street, Abilene. Burial will be at a later date and time in St. John's Cemetery in San Mateo, California.
Ruth was born September 16, 1917 to Arthur Hughes and Dora Killeen Hughes in Litchfield, Nebraska. On February 27, 1943, she married Francis Ted Davis in California while he was in the Marine Corp. They lived in California for many years and were married for 66 years. Ted passed away in 2009.
Ruth worked for Macy's Department Store in the jewelry department for 15 years. She also enjoyed working through the Catholic Church doing Community Outreach. Ruth was a devoted wife and homemaker and liked to entertain. She had a great sense of humor and family was very important to her. Ruth loved to participate with her friends in the Country Club activities in San Mateo, CA and was a longtime member of the Peninsula Tennis Club in Burlingame, CA. She was always willing to help family and friends with anything they needed. Ruth enjoyed the finer things in life. Her Bichon Frise named Ginger was her life after her husband passed away.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Mariana Hughes and Ruby Dean; a brother, Milford David Hughes; nephews, Richard and LeRoy Dean, Milford LeVene Hughes; and a niece, Jacqueline Herndon.
Survivors include a sister, Lola Parks of Maryland; a niece, Vicki Hurt (Robert) of Clyde, Texas; a nephew, Joe Dean (Jeniene) of Leander, Texas; God-Child, Holly Haggerty Sokolowski of Tampa Florida; a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews; and her beloved dog, Ginger
