Ruth L. Gardner

The funeral service will be held at Crescent Heights Baptist Church,1902 N Mockingbird Ln., Abilene, TX 79603, Monday March 27, 2023 at 11:00 am, with Reverend Rudy Fambrough officiating. Interment to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. Visitation will be Monday March 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at Crescent Heights prior to funeral service.

Ruth was born to Anna and Karl Kafer in Hurnville, TX on August 23,1928. She graduated from Highland High School in 1946, and worked at the Woolworth and Broughton Motor Co. in Sweetwater. Ruth married Billy Ralph Gardner on June 12, 1954 in Roscoe. After her marriage they moved to Abilene where she was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church, active in many ways including the nursery, Sunday School teacher and choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ralph, her parents, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include her sister, Anna Lewis of Abilene, and sister in law, Joy Hollowell and husband Bill, of Abilene; daughters: Beverly Pierce of Abilene, Becky Lyon, and husband Derek. of Canyon, and Darrell Gardner, and wife Shelly, of Abilene; six grandsons, one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in her honor may be donated to Crescent Heights Baptist Church, 1902 North Mockingbird Lane, Abilene, Texas 79603. In lieu of flowers the family requests you plant a tree.
