

Sammie Pyle Gibson, 88, of Abilene and Temple, TX passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Temple, TX. A memorial service for Sammie will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene with Dr. Clifford S. Stewart officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
Born on July 26, 1925 in Kemp, TX to Henry and Bessie Irene Pyle, Sammie lived most of her life in Dallas where she met, and married Kelly Gibson on February 7, 1948. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years together.
After moving to Abilene in 1993, she joined First Central Presbyterian Church. Sammie soon became an active member of her new community by volunteering with the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission of Abilene, The Bridge Center, Rose Park Senior Citizens Center, and Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Next to her love of family and friends, Sammie loved to play bridge. She not only loved the mental challenges of the game, she also cherished the camaraderie, and the long-lasting friendships made over many years of playing.
Sammie was predeceased by her loving husband, Kelly, in 2007. Survivors include daughters, Nancy Spencer and husband, Richard of Temple, TX, and Lunette Jones and husband, Bob, of Arroyo Grande, California; granddaughters, Andrea Chupik and husband, Kevin of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kellie Eserts and husband, Michael of Los Angeles, California; and three great-grandchildren, Ellis Michael Eserts, Elizabeth Kelly Eserts, and Ava Soleil Chupik.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission, c/o First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange St. Abilene, Texas 79601.
