

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother left this life at the age of 85 years old on March 13, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation and rosary will be held on Friday March 16, 2012 at 6:00p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Dr., officiated by Father Terry Brenon. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Silvina Munoz Valdez was born on May 4, 1926 in Ben Arnold, Texas to Jesusa Munoz, but was raised by her grandparents, Jesus Munoz and Elojia Davalos.
In 1944 she married Leon Lopez Valdez. In 1946 they moved from Cameron to Abilene, Texas where she remained for the remainder of her life. Silvina was a homemaker and provided care to her grandchildren and the children of friends for more than 20 years. She was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers.
Silvina was a devout Catholic, a Cursillista, and a Guadalupana. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church with the last six years a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.
Silvina Valdez was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Leon Valdez; great-grandson, Matthew Dominguez; and four brothers, Manuel Munoz, Ruben Ray, Jr., and Arturo Vega; and one sister, Juana Martinez.
She is survived by her fourteen children; six daughters and their spouses, Josie (Joe) Albarado, Clara (Mario) Sanchez, Carmen (James) Cortinaz all from Abilene; Mary (Hector) Caro of San Antonio, Maria Elena Mack of Florida, and Christina (Joe) Jimenez of Mansfield; eight sons and their spouses, Richard (Rachel), Robert, Luis (Juanita), Paul (Mary Ruth), Thomas (Stella), George (Margaret), Angel Valdez all from Abilene, and Adam Valdez of Arlington; one sister, Enedina Montez; three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Richard Vega of Cameron, TX; 38 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnny Albarado, PJ Valdez, Nick Dominguez, Eric Caro, Joey Jimenez, and Anthony Valdez. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Valdez, Timothy Cortinaz, Stephen Valdez, Joseph Mack, Randall Valdez, and Wesley Valdez.
