Tim was born in Los Angeles, California on February 1, 1947 to Irving and Patricia Roswell. He graduated from Pasadena High School and later Pasadena City College. After a few rowdy years of college, Tim decided to try his luck in Alaska. He made the trip north and landed a job as a counselor at a juvenile detention facility. Tim caught the attention of Edwina Schneider who had come to Alaska from Texas also in search of adventure. Tim and Edwina were married in Anchorage, Alaska on February 21, 1970 and were married for 38 years before Edwina's death in 2008. In 1971, the couple loaded an old Ford Econoline van, towing a Volkswagen, and made the long trip from Alaska to Southern California at top speed of 25 miles per hour. In California, they raised two children, Ross Edward and Coker Irving. Tim had two careers: 23 years as a production manager for a clothing manufacturing company in Los Angeles and 13 years as a construction inspector for the Texas Department of Transportation. Later in life, Tim became "Poppy" to two grandchildren, Paul and Timothy "TJ". Tim became a Christian in 1993 and was a member of the Shep Church of Christ.
