My mom was born Virginia Jane on July 4, 1916 in Stapleton, Nebraska to George F. and Columbus Davisson. She was the youngest of five and the only girl. The family later moved to Odessa, TX where she graduated from Odessa High School. Then off to Abilene and Hendrick Nursing School. She became a Registered Nurse in 1937. While working at Hendrick Medical Center, she met and married my dad, Wendell T. Hackney. They had two sons, Weldon “Buff” (1946) and Thomas “Freddy” (1959). My dad died in 1985 and Mom remarried in 1988 to J.M. Brooks, who died in 2008. I have been blessed to be her caregiver since that time. Dementia is tough to deal with and you can’t do it alone. God sent my dear friend and sister, Marie Analla, to help. She saved my life and made Mom’s life a joy. She truly loved Mom like a daughter. She was with us to the end. All my love to her. I would also like to thank Juanita Pypher for her love and concern. My mom was a Christian all of her life. She was the sweetest and kindest person I ever met. She always cared about others first. I never saw her angry once in my life. The world has lost a dear lady. I hope she touched your life. Mom died December 31st at 11:46 pm. My life will never be the same. GOODBYE SWEETHEART! I love you, Buff.
