Services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Hwy 277 S, with Rev. David Cason officiating. Interment to follow in Potosi Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Wanda was born February 25, 1942 to Mason and Joyce Riley in Throckmorton, Texas. She graduated from Throckmorton High School in 1960. Her high school goal was to, “Be Happy.” Her family moved to Abilene in 1962. She worked at Wyatt’s Cafeteria in Westgate Mall where she met her, “Honey” of 57 years, Gerald Staggs. They were married May 25, 1963. Her work history included working at Timex until it closed and then she was a Daycare Teacher at Pioneer Drive until she retired.
One of her greatest gifts was her unconditional love for her family. She was our biggest cheerleader. If she could attend a ball game, or school program, she was there. She also enjoyed watching Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and Dancing with the Stars.
The last couple of weeks of her life she looked forward to seeing Jesus and being reunited with her, “Honey.” We believe she fulfilled her high school goal to be happy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Joyce Riley; her husband, Gerald Staggs; sister, Kay White; brother, Jerry Riley and son-in-law, Benny Diaz.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Diaz; sons, Allen Staggs, and wife, Robin, and Mason Staggs, and wife, Amber; her grandchildren, Christopher Clifton, Crystal Lindsey, and husband, Thomas, Tina Diaz, Ashley Hutton, and husband, Ryan, Chelsie LeBouef, Sydney Staggs, Sabrina Clark, and husband, Joshua, Kaitlin Downing, and husband, Osten, and Alex Wood; her great-grandchildren, Koran, Khole, Jonathon, Lilliana, Elijah, Austin and Wyatt.
