Born and raised in Toronto in the Bloor and Ossington area near Shaw Street, Roger was the youngest child of Dorothy Violet Loader, originally from Newfoundland, and Frederic Charles Loader, from England. Dorothy worked at a laundromat near Bloor and Shaw. He was the youngest of four children, with siblings Doreen, Bruce, and Ron. Both of his parents lived to the age of 81, and Roger was 36 when his father passed.
Roger was a quiet man by nature, but he had a deep love for sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays. While he was calm and reserved in many ways, he was never shy about loudly expressing his opinions from the sidelines. That mix of quiet presence and spirited commentary is something many of us will always remember.
He married Audry Topp on July 27, 1997, beginning a chapter centered on companionship and love.
He will be lovingly remembered by his stepson, Jeffrey Casciato, and his wife, Daneige; step-grandchildren Sebastian, Annie, Alessandra, and Jacob; and step-grandchild Laura from his first marriage.
Roger took great pride in his work as a maintenance worker for the City of Toronto at Lambton Arena. While he enjoyed his job, his favourite part was driving the Zamboni, clearing the ice for the next event. For him, it wasn’t just about the machine—it was about the people. He found real joy in watching players step onto the ice, and he especially valued any opportunity to teach kids, always happy to share his knowledge and encouragement.
Roger will be remembered for his quiet nature, his deep love of sports and cars, and his unwavering devotion to his wife, Audry, for whom he would do anything.
