

Arthur was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 25th, 1931 and he was baptized at the First Antioch Baptist Church and he accepted the Lord at an early age. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1951. He then moved to Akron in 1953 and was employed with the B.F. Goodrich Rubber Company for 43 years and retired in 1995. He loved to garden and read the Bible. He also tutored at Stewart Afro-Gentric School to 4th & 5th graders for five years.
Arthur was united in marriage to Edna Demery on August 12th, 1960 for 57 years. He joined the Bethel SDA Church and later joined and served at the Canton New Hope SDA. In 2000 he joined Arlington Church of God, under the pastorate of Dr. Ronald J Fowler and Dr. Diana L Swoope; where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Treasury Board, Men’s Chorus and the Senior Choir member until his health no longer permitted him to serve.
Arthur spent the last six-and-a-half months in the Copley Health Center where he continued to sing, pray, and witnessed about his love for Jesus Christ. He loved the Work of God, his wonderful wife, family, his church family and his friends. He loved food, basketball, and travel.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Wyatt & Lillian Torrey Sr.; son Reginald Torrey; brothers David, Nathaniel, Donald, and Wyatt Torrey, Jr.; and two sisters Dorothy Wilkens and Ruby Taylor.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Edna Torrey of 57 years, his son Arthur (Sheila) Torrey, Jr., one step-son Rodney Rittenhouse, brother Larry (Cheryl) Torrey, special niece Deborah Britton, two grandsons Arthur and Shevon Johnson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and ACOG family.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Arlington Church of God 539 S. Arlington St. Akron, Ohio 44306, Dr. Diana L Swoope, officiating.
