He was born and spent his entire life in Akron, Ohio.
Throughout his days, he was witty with an infectious smile, but never afraid to speak his mind. He studied art at Kent State University, made tires for Goodyear, and was a manager at Akron Beacon Journal. His love for and knowledge of Akron was limitless. He could tell you anything about her history and directions to anywhere. He was an accomplished bridge player, where he met many of his lasting friends.
He was married to and preceded in death by Shirley and is survived by her children, George Shapiro and Judy Kaplansky; grandchildren Caryn, David, and Rose; great-grandchildren Colette, Charles, Lucie, Myles, and Lily.
On April 17, 2026, calling hours will take place between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM followed by the funeral service at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W Market St, Akron, OH 44333. Edward's final resting place is beside his late wife at Rose Hill Burial Park.
