

Gerald Bryant Slawter, lovingly known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on December 21st, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on February 8, 1929, to Damon David and Ruth (May) Slawter, Jerry’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and an unwavering love for his family.
Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Anita Slawter, with whom he shared an inseparable bond and whom he cared for until her passing in 2022. He was also predeceased by his stepmother, Harriet Slawter; his brother, Raymond Slawter; and his sister, Patricia “Patty” Peebles.
He is survived by his daughter, Becky (Sonny) Shively; his son, David (Tammy) Slawter; and his granddaughter, Joleene Ross; and great grandson, Emmet; and nieces Karen Ammons and family, and Cheryl Slawter. Also surviving him are his sisters-in-law, Margaret Rhodes and Jewel Reynolds, along with many nieces and nephews who held him in the highest regard.
Jerry proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His military service instilled in him a strong work ethic and attention to detail, values that he carried with him throughout his life. For nearly two decades, Jerry worked for Jones Motor Company, where he was admired for his dedication and expertise. In retirement he worked as a driver at Walsh Jesuit High School. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 24 in Cuyahoga Falls.
Known for his generosity, Jerry was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His meticulous nature shone through in everything he did, from maintaining his cars to the way he cared for his family. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching NASCAR, admiring antique cars, and spending time fishing and boating with loved ones.
Jerry’s funeral service will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park at 12pm, Sunday, January 5th at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3563 W. Market St. in Akron. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Ohio AMVETS Charities in honor of Jerry’s service and his dedication to his country.
Jerry Slawter will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kindness, generosity, and devotion to family leave a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Jerry’s family would like to acknowledge the amazing care he received at Heritage Crossing during the last two years from his aides, Kyla Cook, Lavonte Powell, Alexa Palmer, Chyna White, Jaecee Hervet, Angel Booth, Nesha Curry, Aubreonn Dixon, Bryani Wilson, Stefanie Wesley, Amana Lewis, Michelle Dampler, and Tameesha Vaughn; and his nurses Dorlisa Finney, Mary Kate Bush, and Shalyn Hoffman.
