Giulio Murgida

A loving father, proud grandfather and dear brother, Giulio leaves behind his son Joseph, his grandchildren Christine and Michael and his sister, Sara Murgida and many friends.

Giulio immigrated to the United States in 1949 from Centrache, Calabria, Italy. He was the heir to the original “Papa Joe’s Restaurant” on West Market Street in Akron. “Papa Joe” (Joseph Murgida) bequeathed the original restaurant to Giulio Murgida in 1950.

Although educated in Rome, Italy as a school teacher, he continued his career as a restaurant owner and chef with various management positions. He transformed his love for the food industry into brokering Italian specialty products as owner of “Italian Canadian Imports” until he retired.

A funeral mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Hilary Church, 2750 West Market Street, Fairlawn, where family will receive friends from 10:30 until time of the service. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
