

Glenda Faye Sherrell (Kelker), 77, of Akron, Ohio, formally of Dover, Ohio, closed her eyes and took God's hand on March 22nd 2014 at home surrounded by love and family.She was born to the late John T. and Leoda Kelker (Knotts) December 7th 1936 in Dover, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by sister, Audrey Bonner; brother, Eugene Kelker; granddaughter, LaShawn Maytee Pratt; and grandson, Cordell Savaughn Blackmon.She married Joseph L. Sherrell from her hometown, Dover, in 1952 and moved to Akron, Ohio where she resided for over 60 years.Together the couple had four children, Novella D. Hayes, Yolanda K. Pratt, Mark K. Sherrell, Benita R. Wilson, all of Akron, Ohio. Glenda was a long time active member of God's Faithful Church of Deliverance where she taught Sunday school and Bible study. She was a private housekeeper for many years. In 1983, she attended Scott vocational Institute and became a nursing assistant where she took care of the ill and disabled, retiring with over 23 years of service but still caring for her children, grandchildren and friends even in illness. Also known to the ones who love her as "Grey Fox" and "Old Granny", she loved garage sales, sports, westerns, working on her flowers in her yard, telling all about God and family gatherings.She leaves to cherish her memory, husband of 62 years, Joseph L. Sherrell; daughters, Novella D. Hayes, Yolanda K. Pratt (Larry), Benita R. Wilson (Alvin); son, Mark K. Sherrell; eight grandchildren, Kenneth J. Hayes, Cordell J. Blackmon (Robin), Daniel M. Hayes, Emmanuel M. Blackmon Jr. (Tiffany), Nakita N. Pratt, Mark K. Sherrell Jr. (Shawntae), Antoinette M. Manning, Anthony L. Lott; and 16 great-grandchildren; six sisters and brothers, Charles B. (Sarah) Keller of Ennis, Texas, Josephine E. (Frank) Lowery of Dover, Shirly C. (Eddie) Mills of Dover, Woodrow Herman (Patricia) Kelker of Columbus, Brian R. Kelly of Dover and Wendy S. Green of Indianapolis, Ind.; and family friend, Laura Morris who helped to care for her in our time of need, and many, many friends and family.Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 12 p.m. at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME, 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn, OH 44333. Friends may call Thursday, 10 a.m. until service begins at noon. In lieu of flowers, Glenda would like you to donate to family and friends, your local food bank or the Cancer Society in her memory.
