On Sunday, June 24, Helen went to join her heavenly family. Born in Mentor Ohio, Helen was adopted by George and Almeda Wells of Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Buchtel High School in the class of 1939 and went on to model for Carpenter Studios.
Attending actual business college, she became a transcriptionist at City Hospital, and a private secretary at B.F. Goodrich. Helen worked there until marrying in 1948. Following WWII, she met and married the love of her life Tom R. Carr of Lynn, West Virginia.
Having only one child, she found that her heart was just too big not to share, which led her to foster and help many children. There was always time to lend an ear, to lend a hand, a gentle hug or just a recipe to all that came her way. A life long member of West Hill Baptist Church, she worked tirelessly in the nursery, Sunday school, and with the “D.M.A. Society” known as the Don’t Mention Age Society.
A true angel to all and never met a stranger.
Helen was preceded in death by her true love, Tom Carr she leaves behind her daughter Lila and husband Michael O’Loughlin, her special “adopted family” of
Jane and Kolman Rosenberg, Matt and Rebecca Bittinger and their children: Alissa, Jack, and Cole, and Lee and Roland Haag and their children; Bridget and Eric, and countless nieces and nephews from the Carr family.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 27, from 6 to 7:30pm at the Catavolos Funeral Home 3653 W. Market St. Fairlawn where funeral services will be held Thursday, at 11am and receive friends from 10:30am until time of services. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations may be made to West Hill Baptist Church of Akron, 605 N. Revere Rd. Akron, OH 44333.
