

A graduate of East High School in Columbus, OH, Herman was also a proud United States Navy Veteran. He worked 30 years at The University of Akron and retired in 1995. He was also a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, where he was active in the Food Bank Ministry and Housekeeping Ministry for many years.
Herman was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, grandfather (“Poppa”) and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all. He loved his family and always had open arms to help those in need. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, sports, cooking, and firing up the grill for family and friend gatherings. He loved trains and proudly displayed models of classic vehicles he had collected over the years.
Herman leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 44 years, Dr. Peggy Honaker, two sons, Derrick Honaker (Michelle) and Jason Honaker (Carmen), daughter Tracy Honaker, niece Angela Foster (Steven), four grandchildren: DeAndre and Miranda Honaker, Aaron Honaker and Jayden Honaker, father Bishop Herman W. Honaker Sr. (Suzie), brothers Paul Honaker (Brenda), Robert White (Crystal), Noway White, Jerald Honaker, Lewis Williams and sister Helen Bryson (John). Herman also leaves behind a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday, July 18th from 6 to 8pm at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 West Market St., Fairlawn, OH, 44333. The Homegoing Service will be 11am Friday, July 19th at Second Baptist Church 690 South Main St. Akron, Ohio 44311, where there will be viewing from 10 to 11am (one hour prior to Herman’s Celebration of Life Service).
Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park. Condolences may be sent to 2682 Abington Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333.
