Isaac “Ike” Russell Butson, Jr. passed into eternal rest on July 13, 2015. Ike was the loving and devoted husband of Linda (nee Wright) Butson who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved children Derrick (Karen) of Alpharetta, GA and Lori (Mark) Smith of Hudson, OH. He was proud to be a doting grandfather of Kelly Smith, Andrew Smith, Alexandra Butson, Calvin Butson and Kelsey Butson. He is also survived by a brother Tom (Teri) Butson of Lancaster, PA; a sister Bonnie Butson of Tallmadge, OH; nephews Thomas and Michael Butson; and his faithful canine companion Bella.
Ike was born to Isaac Russell Butson Sr and Alberta L Mease and raised in Lancaster, PA. He graduated from McCaskey High School in 1952. He later received a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tri State College in Angola, IN.
Sports were an important part of his entire life. He loved baseball both as a player well into his twenties and later as a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies until his death at age 80. He loved golf, a love he shared with his wife Linda. Together they were a formidable partnership on the greens. American history was a subject of great interest tor Ike and he had a scholar’s knowledge of the Civil War. He also enjoyed music and the theater.
Above all else- even more than Penn State football and his respect for his hero Joe Paterno-Ike loved his family and friends and was loved and admired by them in return. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Ike’s name to a charity of your choice.
Private Family Services were held with entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, OH.
