

John P. Richard Jr. (Jack) died suddenly August 6th, 2014. Jack was born in 1922. A longtime resident of Cuyahoga Falls, graduated from Buchtel High School, went on to study painting and illustration at the Chicago Professional School, Kent State University, Akron University, Ohio University and also studied privately with Robert Brackman, Aaron Bohrod, Ben Shahn, Charles Burchfield, Yasuo Kuniyoshi and many others. Jack served in the U. S. Army WWII in the Philippines during the war and in Japan during the occupation.
Jack made a living as an artist over the last 60 years, painting over 800 commission portraits, church murals, illustrations etc…. His works are in many public and private collections throughout the world. He was an avid reader and loved swimming.
A very important part of his life was teaching. He taught for over 60 years and was very proud of his students. Jack was painting, teaching and running his gallery, Studios of Jack Richard, in Cuyahoga Falls right up to his death.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Jane Williams Richard, parents John Richard Sr. and Maude Richard, brothers Donald and Harold and Sister Helen Cross
. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Mike and Cozy Richard, Roslynn Ogden, Mary Cosman, Roy Richard, John Cross, Kim Bates, Dennis Cross, Bonnie Richard, Laurie Cole, Cousin Terry Richard and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 2pm at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 West Market Street, Fairlawn where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 12 noon until time of service. Interment Rose Hill Burial Park.
