

Jeans D. Roberts received her wings and went home to be with the lord on May 9, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born in Akron Ohio at the Bell Westly home August 3, 1931 to the union of her late parents John L. and Mary E. Mitchell. Jean was the last living member of the Bell Wesley family. Bell Westly was Jeans great great Aunt. Wesley Temple AME Zion Church was named after Bell Wesley. Jean is a member of the Ushers ICUA of Akron Ohio. She served as secretary of the usher board of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church for many years until the decline of her health forced her to retire. She also is a proud member of the Red Hat Sassies. Jean excepted Christ at an early age in Hudson Ohio at the First Congregational Church. She attended the Hudson school system and graduated in 1949. She worked in retail as a department manager for 35 years.
Jean and her late husband Gilford W. Roberts loved to travel. In 1985 they traveled to Germany for 2 weeks with several of their masonic friends. Later that year they formed a group of 12 masonic sisters and brother and went on vacation cruises for many years. Jean was always willing to help. She had her health problems but always said (I won’t complain) God will take care of me.
Jean is a Past Worthy Matron of Mary Chapter #47 Order of Eastern Stars PHA. She served as Worthy Matron for 2 years. In 2011 she was awarded Eastern Star of the year.
Jean is a Past Commandress of Al Kaf Court #144. In 2009 she was awarded daughter of the year. She is a Past Most Ancient Matron of El Zerubbabel Court #5 Heroines of Jericho, Past Princess Captain of Golgotha Guild #4 Heroines of the Templar Crusade. She served as Princess Captain of Golgotha Guild #4 for 4 years. Jean is also a proud member of Bezaleel Assembly #19 Order of the Golden Circle.
