

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, John Douglas Bowen made his peaceful transition from labor to reward at the age of 85, at Cleveland Clinic-Akron General Medical Center due to complications of pneumonia and Covid-19. At his bedside during his transition was his devoted wife Rose Bowen of 34 years, brothers Don (Sherry) Bowen, Eddie (Pauletta) Bowen, son's Stacy (Tracy) Bowen, Dale (Renee) Bowen, Tony Bowen, and Niece Crystal Bowen-Carter.
John D. Bowen was born April 5th, 1936 in Midway, Alabama to his parents, William and Carrie Bell Bowen. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and baptized at Mount Silla Baptist Church in Midway, Alabama. After he graduated from Comer Vocational High School he moved to Haines City, Fla. with his brother, Don Bowen. They later travelled to New York where John became a licensed equipment operator. A year later, John and Don relocated to Akron, Ohio to be near their sisters, Myrtis Carter and Susie King. John met Peggy Suddeth and they were married and four children were born to this union.
With John's Christian experience, he united and joined United Baptist Church of Akron, Ohio under the leadership of Dr. Roderick C. Pounds, Sr. He loved to sing and listen to gospel music. He sang in the choir until he organized his own gospel group "Gospel Wonders" of Akron, Ohio. John sang with other gospel groups and churches, such as; Dominion Family Church, funerals, United Baptist Church, and Henry Dunn and Co. John was an avid reader of the Bible. He enjoyed watching the Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians. His hobbies were gardening, traveling, landscaping, building houses in Akron area, fishing and driving antique cars. He also enjoyed helping others in the community to repair their home, mended repairs at United Baptist Church, Weed & Seed, S.C. Community Action, neighbors and friends and caring maintenances of his own properties.
John D. Bowen is preceded in death by his parents, William and Carrie Bell Bowen; brother's William Bowen, David Bowen, Oree Bowen, James Bowen, and Reverend O.B. Bowen. Sister's Myrtis Carter, Susie King, Dominion Williams, Idean Crews, Carrie Bell Cummings, and Clara M. Bowen. John leaves to cherish is loving memory and to carry on his legacy to his wife, Rose Bowen of 34 years. Son's Stacy (Tracy) Bowen, Dale (Renee), Tony (Patricia) Bowen all of Akron Ohio. Daughter's Crystal (Tracy) Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia, Jewel Gandy of Birmingham, Alabama. Sister Robbie Stevenson-Harris of St. Petersburg, Fla., and brother's Don C. (Sherry) Bowen, Eddie (Pauletta) Bowen all of Akron, Ohio and O'Neil Bowen of St. Petersburg, Fla. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and special thanks to nephew Shawn Bowen. Five step-children, five sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, and a host of other family and friends.
