Joseph F. Mure, MD, passed away at age 65 on April 30, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on Oct. 17, 1951 in Passaic, N.J., to Rose Marie and the late Philip Mure. He married the love of his life, Janet Quotidian, on Nov. 14, 1982. He found his joy in spending time with Jan and their children, Michael and his wife Brooke, of New York, and daughter Jaclyn of Akron. His children are grateful for his example of how to live and love, and make the most of each moment.
Joe had an incredible range of interests and activities aside from his profession. He earned a black belt in Karate, and his love of music began in his youth. As a teen, he played guitar in a rock-n-roll band called The Gatekeepers of Eden. Later, he helped Michael record rap music, which became part of a portfolio that gained his son admission to Harvard University. Similarly, through his work, he influenced daughter Jaclyn to become a nurse anesthetist. Sadly, he passed six days before her graduation. In addition to his own children, he guided many of their friends, some of whom considered him a father figure.
For friends and relatives, Joe often created everlasting memories through expertly crafted video productions. He also enjoyed golfing at Fairlawn County Club, snowboarding, windsurfing, auto racing, and a good cigar at Havana House.
Joe was a greatly skilled anesthesiologist loved by peers and patients alike. He combined medical excellence with loving care for all he served. Patients and physicians often requested him for their surgeries. In addition to medical care, he delivered comfort and humor as well.
Following graduation from Clifton High School in 1969 and Rutgers University College of Pharmacy in 1976, he practiced pharmacy for one year and then furthered his education at the Universidad Autonoma of Guadalajara Medical School. After graduation in 1980, he completed a residency in anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He also became board certified in pain management.
In 1985, Joe joined Anesthesiology Associates of Akron, Inc., at Akron General Medical Center. Through his career, he affectionately called it the “greatest group in the world.” He served as President of the corporation for 10 years, and retired in 2013.
Joe was a member of Akron Lodge 685, Order Sons of Italy, and St. Hilary Parish.
In addition to Jan, his children and mother, he leaves sister, Rose Marie Pendrak (John; nieces Michele Bush (Brody), Lisa Zwanch (David); mother-in-law Rosemary and the late John Quotidian; sisters-in-law Cheryl Fiocco (Michael) and Nancy Tannenhaus (Joel); nieces and nephew Erica and Kelly Fiocco, and Marc and Paige Tannenhaus; special cousin, Cynthia Cook (Robert), Jaclyn’s boyfriend Jeff Mittereder; and dear friends the Catalano Family, the Granata Family, the Silbiger Family, and the Ice Cream Night Group.
The Mure Family extends its sincerest gratitude to the staff of the Akron General NSICU, including Doctors Tim Murray, Ari Wachsman, James Gebel, Sanjiv Tewari, Lokesh Venkateshaiah, and special nurse Kelly, all of whom took wonderful care of Joe in his final days.
