

Melanie was born June 28, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John and Roberta (Nairn) Padich. She grew up in Cleveland's Broadway neighborhood and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School.
Melanie was a kind and loving person with a wry wit, generous sense of humor, and loving heart. She began her career as an LPN. She worked primarily at Deaconess Hospital and later part time at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. One of the accomplishments she was most proud of was assisting in some of the earliest hip replacement surgeries performed at the hospital. After her career in nursing, she worked in purchasing at the Philpot Rubber Company. She was also incredibly proud that she was a homeowner as a single woman. In 1979 she met her partner for life, Roy. They were married in 1983.
At this point, she found her true vocation, taking care of her family. She was a natural caretaker and excellent with logistics. She cared for her family and made sure everything ran smoothly within her household. Melanie was an excellent cook and enjoyed looking for new recipes in cookbooks, and later on the internet. She enjoyed cruising and had been a licensed amateur radio operator (WD8OPT) since 1977. In 1991, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Baldwin-Wallace. She additionally loved to watch sports, supporting the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Cavaliers at the professional level, and Ohio State, Michigan State, and Notre Dame at the college level, as well as Archbishop Hoban High School.
Melanie is survived by her husband, Roy Stype, who she met through amateur radio. She also leaves behind her daughter, Amanda Stype and beloved dog, Tucker. Other living family include her brother, Bob (Diane) Padich, her nephew Bryan Padich, and nieces Robyn and Sydney Stype.
A memorial service celebrating Melanie’s life will be 6pm, Thursday, April 24th, at the Chapel in Archbishop Hoban High School, One Holy Cross Blvd. in Akron where friends may call from 5pm to 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stype Family Math and Science Scholarship at Archbishop Hoban High School or the Hemophilia Federation of America.
