Richard (Dick) Maj, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2022, at the age of 87. He was born January 9, 1935, the son of John and Edith Maj in Montreal, Quebec Canada. He immigrated to New York City and became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Dick served his country for 4 years in the US Air Force post-Korean War. Soon after, he met and married a beautiful young attorney, JoAnn Mallo, and together they raised five children in Manchester (New Franklin), Ohio.
He inspired a love of snow skiing with his children and nieces and nephews and was known to take them on skiing trips from Aspen, Colorado to New York State and as far away as Quebec, Canada. Dick loved the Portage Lakes and boating of all kinds. In the summer, you would find him putt putting around Portage Lakes on his pontoon boat with a smile and a tan (maybe a drink in hand). He enjoyed a friendly conversation with everyone he would meet.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and uncle who always put family first. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith, and his father, John, his stepmother, Marie, and his loving wife, JoAnn Mallo Maj.
He is survived by his children, Rick (Katy) Maj of North Canton, Tracey (Dave) Waddell of Vicksburg, MS, Jill Maj of Fairlawn, Dr. Stephanie (Jill Heator) Maj of Evanston, IL, and Jamie Maj of Portage Lakes. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Paslowski, sister-in-law, Delores Elias, grandchildren, Samuel (Lauren) Maj, Sarah (Caitlin Garrity) Maj, Rebecca (Kevin) Giaier, Kayla (Addison) Drouant, and Cody (Fiancé, Brittany Carter) Waddell, two great-grandchildren, Theo and Lark Maj, and future baby boy Drouant, along with many nieces and nephews.
