DOYLESTOWN- In loving memory of Ronald Louis Dellangelo, age 84, who passed away peacefully Sunday morning, February 9, 2025, at Summa Barberton Hospital. He was a cherished husband, father, brother and grandfather.
Ron was born on May 4, 1940, in Barberton to the late Silvio and Irene (Studenic) Dellangelo. A long-time resident of Akron, he graduated from Akron’s Buchtel High School in 1958. Ron proudly served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for five years, with his service taking him to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before being honorably discharged.
Ron had a remarkable career spanning more than 35 years as a Research Technologist and Testing Engineer at B.F. Goodrich Research & Development Center in Brecksville, Ohio. He took great pride in conducting laboratory testing and quality control of rubber and plastic materials. Ron’s innovative spirit led him to design specialized computerized data acquisition instruments and control systems for both laboratories and factories, earning him several U.S. patents for his contributions to the field.
A dedicated member of the Silvercreek Amateur Radio Association (SARA), he affectionately was known by his nickname "Iron Man." Ron, who held the call sign KD8CVS, played an instrumental role in SARA for many years.
For more than seven years, Ron led the SARA’s Barometer Net, providing daily local barometer readings to help predict weather forecasts six days a week. His steadfast commitment to this role helped build a loyal following, with more than 2,000 net sessions under his leadership. Many of these sessions, which often lasted up to three hours, saw over 50 check-ins, creating a space for both mobile users and home operators to connect, share news, engage in good conversation, and stay informed about the weather.
Ron’s leadership and dedication to the Barometer Net were not only a testament to his passion for amateur radio, but also to his ability to foster lasting friendships and maintain a strong sense of community within the SARA club. His contributions will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of working with him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Antonia and John Studenic; paternal grandparents, Maria and Angelo Dellangelo; his biological father, Silvio Dellangelo; his mother, Irene (Dellangelo) Tuhela; his stepfather, John Tuhela; and his stepsister, Patricia Tuhela-Booth.
Ron is deeply missed and survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Judy Dellangelo; daughters, Cheryl (Jason) Roberts of Macedonia and Laura Dellangelo of Utah; sister, Debbe Tuhela-Long of Akron; brother, John (Ann) Tuhela of Fort Myers, Florida; niece, Jennifer Tuhela of Miami, Florida; along with many loving cousins and two beloved grandsons, Justin and Drew Roberts.
