

Walter was born on September 16, 1923 in Demopolis, Alabama to the late William Tuly and Bertha (nee Watts).
Walter served in the United States Army from April 29, 1943 until November 13, 1945. The day following his Honorable discharge from the Army, Walter proudly enlisted with the United States Air Force and served until July 20, 1948.
Walter married Lucille Delois Carter on June 13, 1949 and from this glorious union, three children were born; Jacqueline Worthy, Barbara Perkins and Julian Worthy.
Walter was a carpenter for over 50 years and worked for several major construction companies in the Akron area including Ozanne Construction Company where he served as Superintendent on the Ocasek Building in downtown Akron. He was a member of Carpenters Local 639, Minority Contractors Association, Mt Calvary Lodge #76 Prince Hall F&AM and affiliated with Worthy & Sons Construction Company.
He owned Worthy’s Trucking, loved to travel, fish and frequent flea markets, but most of all he loved his family. He was a very charismatic and outgoing person-making friends everywhere he went. He loved people, and they loved him as well. Walter was always adventurous and at the age of 90, he purchased a charter bus and traveled across the country.
Preceded in death by his parents William Tuly and Bertha Worthy, stepmother Ella Worthy, beloved wife Lucille Worthy; brothers, Sylester “James”, Woodrow, Luit and Lee Worthy; sisters Hattie Jackson and Colleen Worthy. He leaves to cherish his memory, Daughters; Clementine Mauney (Rally, North Carolina), Jacqueline Worthy R.T.(R), Barbara Perkins and son; Julian (Keya) Worthy all of Akron, Grandchildren; Tamika (Quenton) Perkins, Elijah Owens, Lenier, Nia and Gavin Worthy, Melvin Douglass Mauney II and Jeannine Mauney M.D.
Walter will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Homegoing Services will be at 1pm, Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 W. Market St. Fairlawn, where family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of service. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.
