He was born in Akron, Ohio in 1932 to William and Margaret McNeil, and was married to his wife Nancy for 65 years at the time of her passing in 2020.
William put himself through the University of Akron, working at Goodyear in their machinist apprentice program, and was also a midfielder for the very first NCAA varsity soccer team at the university and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He went on to earn an MBA, also from the University of Akron. After starting his career at Goodyear, he worked in various management positions for McNeil Akron for 22+ years, Portec International (Pittsburgh, PA) and finally retired as plant manager from Redicon Corporation in Canton, working until his mid 70's. He loved to work, and loved talking shop.
He was a caring father to his four kids, coaching both soccer and baseball, winning multiple league championships in the latter. He loved spending time with the family every summer on Bob's Lake in Ontario, Canada, where you could find him fishing or sitting quietly overlooking the lake working on a crossword puzzle which he was always sure to finish (in pen). He carried a calm, quiet strength, and lived a long, healthy life.
William is survived by his; daughter, Kathy Koerber (Kurt); sons, William Jr., Thomas (Linda), Peter (Jennifer); grandchildren: Todd, Carla, Lauren, Alexander and Audrey; and great-grandchildren: Morgan, Matthew, Emma, Andrew, Ethan and Dominic.
Following a private service for immediate family, he will be inurned with his wife Nancy at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn, Ohio at a later date.
We love you Dad.
