Eldon was born July 11, 1920 in Bone Gap, IL to Nellie Blanche (Rude) and George Albert Harms.
Eldon and Virginia Veatch were married on April 4, 1948 in Carmi, IL at the First Baptist Church.
They lived in Bone Gap for 6 years, and during that time, he was actively involved in the community; taking part on the town board, was treasurer of the Bone Gap Cemetery, served on the church board, as a trustee, and was the head cook of the Bone Gap Chowder for many, many years. Following their time spent living in Bone Gap, they moved to the farm and enjoyed farm living for several years, until moving to Albion in February of 1986. Wherever the Harms resided, both of them found tremendous enjoyment in singing in church choirs, square dancing and traveling extensively. They took vacations every year, which included Presley tours, on which they visited Canada, Yellowstone Park, Dollywood, Lookout Mountain, the Allis Chalmer’s factory, and in Eldon’s words: “Just about everything there was to see in Florida”!
Eldon became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Albion, where he sang tenor in the choir. He was also an American Legion member, having served in WWII.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother and one sister, Mildred Brines.
He is survived by two daughters: Marcia (Randy) Sawyer of rural Albion, and Colleen (Phiullip) Cullison or rural Albion, and one son, Daniel (Becky) Harms of Bone Gap. He is also survived by grandchildren: Matthew Harms, Neely Sawyer, Caleb Sawyer, Jacque (Jerod) Hallam, and one great-grandson, Rolla Sawyer.
