Anna Ruth Cheek

She was born in 1921 to Mary E. Thompson and Eric Guy in Jefferson County, Alabama. She was raised

by Allen and Mell Solomon in Albion, Michigan. She married Herlen Cheek on November 10, 1939 in

Ohio.

She attended Austin Elementary School, Washington Gardener High School and Albion College.

She accepted God at an early age. Her faithfulness to God and mankind is best reflected in her life’s work and service to Lewis Chapel AME Church. She was a member of the Matron’s Club, Life member of the Gertrude Hawkins Missionary Society, a Torch Lighter, a Steward and a Deaconess.

Service to her community was displayed with zeal and enthusiasm. She served as president of Austin School PTA, was a board member for the Commission on Aging and Albion Interfaith Ministries. She was an honoree for the 1992 Festival of the Fork and volunteered at Trillium Hospital. She was a member and past president of the Emanon Club and Les Bonnese Club.

She retired from Corning Glasswork after 35 years of employment.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herlen, two sisters: Lorraine Brown and Helen Baltimore, one brother, Carl Cobb and son-in-law, Willie (Billy) Whitehead. She is survived by her six children: Sylvia Cheek of Albion, MI., Haroland (Harriett) Cheek of Saginaw, MI., Samuel (Marvilyn) Cheek of Troy, MI., Sandra Whitehead of Lansing, MI., Cheryl Diane (Lavell) Blanchard of Ann Arbor and Allen (DeAnna) Cheek of Charleston, South Carolina. Thirteen grandchildren: Eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and friend and her beloved dog Troy.

Throughout her life she displayed the initiative to help others and use her God given talents to benefit her fellowman. God allowed her to touch the lives of many.

Family Hour will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lewis Chapel A.M.E. Church, 522 West Center Street, Albion, Michigan 49224. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at

11:00 A.M. at the church with Rev. Donald L. Phillips, III officiating. Burial will be at Albion Memory

Gardens.
