Dorcas Wilson

Dorcas M. Wilson , age 88, made her transition into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Bronson Hospital, Battle Creek, MI. Dorcas was born August 18, 1926 in Tram, Kentucky to the late James and Constance (Lane) Lackey. She was the fourth of twelve children born to this union. Her early education was received at Pike and Floyd County Public Schools. She received her High School Diploma through Albion’s Adult Education Program.

Dorcas was united in marriage to Eddie Wilson, December 30, 1952. Three children were born to this union., two children were born to a prior union; Paul Williams, Ronnie Lee Williams, Phyllis Wilson-Glasper, LaMar Wilson, and Vernon Wilson.

Dorcas was employed by Calhoun County Hospital, Marshall, MI., as a Nurse. After closing, she obtained employment at Kimball Medical Facility as a Social Worker until retirement after 25 years service. In order to motivate and inspire the youth of this community the importance of a good work ethic, she returned to work at Lear’s retiring at the age of 80.

Dorcas was a long time member of Lewis Chapel AME Church working on the Stewardess Board until illness prevented her from attending. She enjoyed gardening and established the Lackey Family Reuinon during the Fall of each year when everyone would come together to enjoy the bountiful harvest. She enjoyed baking, but especially enjoyed spontaneous travel to the hills of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eddie, son, Ronnie Lee Williams, grandson, Amir Wilson, granddaughter, Shawn Bonner, three brothers and five sisters. She leaves to cherish her legacy sons, Paul Williams, Vernon Wilson and LaMar Wilson, one daughter, Phyllis (Cleavon) Wilson-Glasper, two sisters, Stella Isom, Betty (Donald) Fullum, one brother, George Lackey, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Family Hour will be Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 11:00AM – 12:00PM

at Grace Temple Church of God in Christ, 711 Grace Street, Albion, Michigan 49224.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 27 at 12:00PM (Noon) at

the church with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Interment will be held

at Riverside Cemetery.
