
Age 91 passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in DeWitt, MI. She was born on October 9, 1923 in Speier, Ukraine to Christian and Helene (Gustin) Messmer. She fled the Soviet Union during WW II to Germany where she married her husband, Ambrose Schatz on June 25, 1947 in Ansbach, Germany. They immigrated to the United States in 1952 with their daughter, Irma, coming into the country in New Jersey and then came on to Albion. Emilie along with her husband worked at Corning Glass until it closed. She enjoyed gardening, wildlife, crocheting, knitting, raising various kinds of birds, baking many of her beloved Ukrainian dishes and she loved what she considered the cutest dogs ever, her Chihuahua’s.
Emilie is survived by:
Two daughters: Irma Rogers and Marie Schatz
Two grandchildren: Kelly Dudek and Casey Merrild
Four great grandchildren: Charlotte and Clair Dudek and Benjamin and Jefferson Merrild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 11, 2015 with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M.
until the time of service at 11:00A.M. at St. John Catholic Church, 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion, MI 49224 with Fr. Joe Gray as Celebrant. Rite of interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
