

Helen L. Simmons, age 92 of Albion passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. She was born March 30, 1925 in Jackson, Michigan the daughter of Ernest and Ione (Sisson) Thomas.
Helen was a graduate of Kellogg Community College where she earned her nursing degree. She worked as an LPN and Director of Central Supply at Albion Community Hospital from 1961 until her retirement in the early 90’s after over 30 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Charlie Brown Group of Employees at the hospital. She was a faithful member and Mother of Higby St. Church of Christ in Jackson and a member of the Golden Agers Group.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rufus Simmons in 2016 and a son, Dr. James Scott in 2002.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Michael (Melody) Scott of Wylie, TX, brother, Edward (Dorothy) Thomas of Menomonee Falls, WI, daughter-in-law, Ann Scott of Gainesville, FL, step-children: Linda Cook, Rhonda Chester, Vicki Myers, Brent Simmons, Mark Simmons, 4 grandchildren, Lori Scott, James Scott II, Jason (Nakia) Scott, Michael Scott, Jr., 6 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, Edward Thomas, Jr., Todd Thomas, niece, Jocelyn Johnson, a host of cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition, she leaves special friend Nina Davidson, 2 Godchildren and dedicated caregivers, sent by God, Althea Johnson and Johnnie Taylor.
Helen’s family will celebrate her life on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Higby St. Church of Christ, 706 S. Higby St., Jackson, MI with Evangelist James Burrus, Minister officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in Jackson.
