

Ira J. Burns age 86 of Albion, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, December 17, 2017 at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson. He was born December 9, 1931 to Hurley and Vinnie (Jones) Burns. He married Marjorie R. Smith on June 8, 1952, entered the U.S. Army in January 1953 and was honorably discharged in January of 1955. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Burns and 2 sisters, Wilma Blodgett and Doris Noble.
Ira attended Union City Schools and later worked for Corning Glass Works until the plant closed in 1975, then worked for Albion Public Schools until his retirement at the end of 1996.
He served in the Army Reserve for 6 years and also served as a Volunteer Fireman with Sheridan-Albion Township Fire Department for over 16 years.
Ira was a member of the New Hope Worship Center.
He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Susan Burns; three grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 19th from 4-6 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI.
The family will celebrate Ira’s life on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at ¬¬¬10 AM at the funeral home with Rev. David Beebe officiating.
He will be laid to rest in Cooks Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Worship Center.
