Ivan “Ike” Green was born July 22, 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of Samuel and Bernice (Carter) Green. He entered this world at an astounding birth weight of 2 pounds 4 ounces. The nickname “Ike” was begun by his Aunt Valerie and stuck for his entire life. Ike transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital, Jackson, Michigan.
Ike attended Albion Public Schools and graduated from Albion Senior High in June, 1994. He attended Western Michigan University for two years. Ike was employed for a time at Lear and Target’s Warehouse until health challenges would not permit him to continue employment.
Ike enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by siblings and a multitude of cousins. Sundays were typically spent at church possibly for the entire day starting with Sunday school. Ike and his cousin/brother, Ason, were selected by their grandfather, Bernard Carter, to take over the Sunday school class when an emergency arose on one particular Sunday. That class was never the same!
Ike never met a stranger and was loved by not only family, but friends who were drawn into the family structure. He forged many friendships by cracking jokes, but make no mistake, he could be very serious if the need arose in spite of his health challenges.
Ike gave his life to the Lord at an early age. He was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Edward Seals. He was baptized on March 27, 1983. He later moved his membership to First Pentecostal Family Worship Center in Battle Creek, Michigan where Elder E.R. Hess, Sr., and Dr. E.R. Hess, Jr., serves as co-pastors.
Ike was the father of three exceptional children whom he loved fiercely. He would do anything for them to ensure that they received the best education and daily amenities. He took fatherhood seriously and had a special bond with each child. During the Fall season, Ike, especially enjoyed watching football with his two sons. Ohio State University and the Dallas Cowboys were favorites.
Ike was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Green; paternal grandmother, Rachel Patterson; paternal grandfather, Walter Green; maternal grandfather, Bernard Carter, affectionally called “Deke”; cousins, Dr. Juania Carter; Dawn Estelle; Stephanie Estelle, and Evelyn Scott.
